A few years ago, graphene was hailed as the next wonder material. And when you look at its properties, it’s easy to see why: stronger than steel, lightweight, an excellent energy and thermal conductor, stiff when needed, and flexible when possible. Sounds like a dream come true!
Graphene is a breakthrough in nanotechnology. Its molecular structure is incredibly fine-meshed, offering a wide range of unique properties and potential applications. However, its major breakthrough has yet to happen, mainly due to availability and the high costs associated with the material
The first graphene-infused cycling products have already hit the market. Some small manufacturers have incorporated graphene into their carbon frame resins, increasing stiffness while reducing weight. So far, only one manufacturer has launched a full line of graphene-enhanced carbon road bike wheels. Meanwhile, graphene-infused tyres have been available for a while now.
Opinions on graphene’s future are divided. Some remain sceptical about its large-scale adoption, while others see it as inevitable. Given its exceptional properties, we believe it’s only a matter of time.
In January 2019, we launched our THOR PRODIGY graphene wheel line, featuring carbon nano-graphene technology, a hookless profile, and an asymmetric design. These wheels are available for MTB, road, gravel, and cyclocross (disc). And that makes them truly unique.
